COPPER ETCHING
AN ART OF PRECISION
The Artist

Francine is fortunate to be born in the beautiful Saguenay region, a corner of the land conducive to the emergence of artists. She grew up there and completed four years of studies at the classical college majoring in visuals arts. Three years of work at Radio-Canada followed, where she devoted herself to musical research, while continuing to study the violin with Mrs. Maria Hasman. For several years now, Francine has been studying in jazz harmony with the pianist Bob Rollins. What could be more surprising since, for nearly three decades, we have seen her blend music into her art, on a range of instruments and poetic themes. May these themes enchant your life and reveal to you, in the depths of your home, your own symphony!

The Technique

Engraving copper is an art that requires time and precision. First the artist draw with a fine point the instrument to discover the protective varnish applied to the copper plate. Then the plate is successively soaked in an acid solution to be engraved to varying degrees and thus obtain the depth of the image. After, the artist apply a fine powder of resin and heat it on the copper plate to create a textured surface. The relief prints in the paper are made by sculpting a second polymer plate. The oil inks that create the color are applied one by one on the plate for each print. The limited edition prints are made on a manual press where the 300 gram cotton museum paper will respond to high pressure. The neutral pH paper ensure the conservation.
